7 Guidelines To Creating Your eBook

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Yesterday morning I had an amazing chat with 2 bloggers you can really expect great things from in the near future. I completely agreed with them when they noted that while most bloggers will talk about monetizing a blog, no one really gets down to the specifics and answers the real questions. We talked about different ways to monetize their specific blogs and the topic came up about eBooks. How do I have about writing one? Formatting an eBook? Publishing it?
First of All, What is an eBook?
An eBook is essentially a lovely Word Document formatted to a PDF. It is then adorned with a beautiful cover, and voila, an eBook is born.
Sounds simple enough doesn't it?
So how do I get started?
Outline
The first step in writing an eBook is getting an outline. The way I start writing my eBooks is I write down the title of the chapters. This gives me a perfect roadmap of what I need to include in the eBook. This also gives me the perfect timeline for writing my eBook. If I work on at least one chapter for 2 days each, it should take me a little over a month to finish the eBook.
Just Write
One of the biggest time wasters when it comes to writing an eBook is becoming distracted while you edit along the way. You need to write, and keep on writing. Do not bother with the spell check. I'm sure your grammar will sound off and what you'll write will just look like complete crap, but the method here is to just get something down in front of you. Then when you are done, go back, edit, delete, and re-write. The hardest step when it comes to writing an eBook is actually doing the writing. This way, you have at least something to work on if you just put words to paper (or screen.)
Use Google Docs
I use Google Docs to write because I love how it saves everything every couple of seconds. I don't have to worry about my computer freezing, or forgetting to charge my laptop when it turns off and takes my Word Document with it. I also use Google Docs to write because it saves online. This means I can hop onto any computer, anywhere, and finish some more chapters at any time.
Create a Cover
You can choose a style, whether it is a heavy book, paperback, magazine style, and so on. There are also more options like CD covers, membership cards, and more. You can create a cover in seconds with a click and paste option, or you can upload your own design.
Let Bloggers Review it For Free
The best way to get the word out about your new eBook and sending it your favorite bloggers and getting them to review it. Not only does this mean your eBook is exposed to every single one of their readers, but you'll get great reviews to post on your blog about your eBook. You can also use services like Business2Blogger.com that has a free option for marketing to bloggers. This should be the easiest step.
Affiliate Program
I use Ejunkie.com to sell all of my products because of their super easy affiliate programs. You can set up an affiliate program for your new eBook so that other bloggers can sign up and sell your eBook for a percentage. Percentages range from 15% to %50 of sales.
Update
Once or twice a year, it's also a good idea to go back and update your eBook. Material is always changing and it's a good idea to revisits the book, add more details, or re-write some that have become irrelevant.
Writing an eBook is a rewarding and easy way to monetize your blog and become a published author along the way. For some ideas on what topics to write about, do a quick Google search on what people in your niche are spending on information products and go from there.

Is Goodreads Worthwhile For Authors?

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Social media marketing is the best way to market a book. There's no doubt about it. In the past, big publishing houses have had the necessary funding to spend a lot of money on book launches. This included posters, TV adverts, radio slots, and many other forms of advertising and marketing.
Self publishing turned all that on its head. But the problem that self publishing created was - how to market a book without the kind of cash inflow that a major publishing house might have at its disposal?
The answer lies in social media. Social media is defined as a medium for social expression, and as such can be viewed as your own media channel (or channels). Now, more than any other time in history, we have great personal power in creating and marketing brand "You," and publicizing that brand through social media.
Book Promotion Through Social Media
Promoting a book through social media doesn't require a lot of time or money, but it does require a clear focus on consistent application of best practices. After all, no one will buy from the person who goes on Facebook or Twitter only to continually shout "Buy my book, buy my book, buy my book."
Sure, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Google+ reach many, many millions of readers, but marketing on them is inefficient compared to Goodreads.
Once you have understood that you need to be subtle about how you go about letting others know about your book on social media, you can start to appreciate what a boon Goodreads is to us.
Amazon's Shelfari.com started off the social networking for book lovers craze, and now there are approximately a dozen social networking and social bookmarking sites that cater to bookworms. Goodreads launched a year after Shelfari, but went on to overtake Amazon's site and continues to lead the pack today.
Why You Shouldn't Ignore Goodreads
While paid advertising is available on Goodreads, there are so many other tools available for book promotion, that they stumble over each other in an effort to get noticed - and in the process succeed only in hiding each other from view.
Without doubt, the biggest reason you should be marketing your book on Goodreads, is that you have a much more targeted audience. People on Goodreads are there because they love reading books, they want to discuss books they like with others and they want to find out what others recommend.
By making use of the many features Goodreads have made available to authors, it is possible to market to other Goodreads users without being considered spammy.
Those tools include:
  • author profiles
  • author blogs
  • RSS feeds
  • groups
  • events
  • book giveaways
  • user badges
  • quotes
  • lists
  • shelves
  • widgets
When using Goodreads, at first glance it seems like there's either nothing going on or there's just too much going on in different places to ever be able to understand it. However, some time spent properly setting up your profile will pay dividends.
Make sure you check out the Help section of your Goodreads account for more tips and tricks.

7 Amazing Tips To Make Money Online With eBooks

Thursday, July 9, 2015
If writing is your thing then this article is for you. It explains 7 top tips for making money online with eBooks.
So, let's get started.
1. Get an idea - do some research, find out what is selling and exploit it. For example, if exercising is your thing, research weight loss and how your favorite exercise gets you results, explain it in an eBook and then sell it. Or, if tennis is your hobby, look at your techniques, mistakes and advise others on what not to do.
2. Create an advert - more commonly known as a salescopy. This is a factsheet on why someone would buy your eBook. Highlight the issues often encountered by people such as, from a weight loss point of view, ill-fitting clothes, buying outsize clothing, excessive food bills to feed an appetite and then, produce the solution to the problem. Exercising for weight loss. If it's tennis, highlight the injuries from holding rackets incorrectly, reaching for shots, types of tennis balls and surfaces to play on. Then identify the skills, methods and equipment needed for best, winning results.
3. Create a website - make a straight forward, clean-cut website which is easy to use and provides all of the information in the salescopy and more, for free, promoting your eBook. Don't go over the top and make it too busy or complicated to navigate. Use a few pages, obvious menu and opt-in form to get further free information prior to purchasing your eBook.
4. Attract visitors - use various methods to attract visitors to your website including writing articles such as this around your niche, or pay for targeted traffic but use reputable sources. You can even create your own YouTube video for free and upload this onto the internet.
5. Request feedback - get advice and comments from your visitors, customers and provoke responses, use competitions, free giveaways and bonus gifts to those who buy from or contribute to your website. this will increase your visibility on the internet and you will gain a good reputation, promoting word of mouth and good reviews.
6. Capture information - for every visitor who requests information, a free bonus or who buys your product, capture their email contact detail prior to distribution in order that, when you create another eBook or information product, you can advertise and offer this to your previous customers. This can be a vital source of income and again, build on your reputation.
7. Create and promote bigger products - turn your eBook into an audio format and sell this as an upsell to those who purchased your book. It is even possible to turn your information product into a DVD collection and sell physical products on Amazon, eBay and other online marketplaces.

How to Write Fabulous eBooks for Children!

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Successful eBook Writer's do their Time!
Children's Writing is Highly Competitive - Open your mind to Gain Advantages
I am likely not the first person to tell you there is HUGE competition in writing eBooks for children. Particularly because there are so many free eBooks available. This is great for the buyers but not so hot for the creators!
First things first. Here are a few key factors you need to know BEFORE you start tearing up the eBooks scene with your amazing writing. Open your mind to gather the information you need to be successful. It all starts right here...
Brush up on your Grammar
It really doesn't matter what sort of writing you are doing. If you aren't tops in the grammar department you've got an uphill battle to climb. What you need to understand off the hop is you will never be perfect in grammar, nobody is. This means it's important for you to always work on your syntax and grammar. That's going to help you boost your quality of writing and build trust with your readers in due time.
Get on the grammar train and never get off!
Read and Read Some More
My guess is-- if you're a writer, then you're also a reader. Very few writers don't like to read. That's your platform to learn what you need to do in order to succeed. If you want to find yourself and your writing style you need to start picking up other children's books and start learning from them. Read and read some more until you can't read another page. This will put your on the right path to start writing your own eBooks for children. Probably free eBooks to start. Then when you've done your promotional time you can start rolling in the money!
Understand How a Story is Written
Next you need to understand how a story is written. Just think back to grade-school where you learned: the introduction, 2-3 paragraphs connecting your main introduction point, and then your final paragraph or conclusion. KISS (Keep it Super Simple) is your best plan of attack. Do some reading on the technical side of writing an awesome kid's book and you're on your way!
Plan your Story
This is where you need to plan your story. Create the character. Find a title. Define the key factors or main points in your story. Look to figure out how long you want your story to be. Make sure you know your target audience. Are you writing for 5 year-olds or 10 year-olds? Keep it fresh and inviting and ultra-simple to start. Have just 2-3 characters and write no more than a 10 page book.
Get Illustrations and Cover Done
In eBooks for children the illustration and cover is the make or break factor. Unless you are an artist too, you'll need to hire someone to create your images and cover design. This is important because people buy with their eyes first, especially children. Keep the images fun, inviting and alive. Make sure they bounce off the page and grab the reader's attention.
Hire a Professional Editor
I know this is a children's book and the language level is low. But it's critical that you hire a quality editor to go through your masterpiece to critique it and fix any grammatical errors or syntax flaws. People judge on first impressions so you need to make this one count. Make your book perfect and you will be rewarded.
Hope these pointers help you write your first of many amazing eBooks for children. And keep in mind that free eBooks to start are a smart marketing move to get you noticed. Just don't leave them free forever or it will be pretty tough to successfully climb your lucrative eBook mountain.
Good Luck!

The Best Formatting Tips for Your Kindle E-Books

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Confused on how to format your Kindle e-book? Starting on your e-book can be overwhelming. After writing the content, you need to edit and format the book so it will be readable on the tablet. Poor formatting can lead to problems that may discourage e-readers from purchasing future books from you.
First of all, there are many tools that can help you with this type of task. You can choose from Microsoft Word, Adobe InDesign, Mobipocket or Calibre for HTML format. Moreover, you can find different tools and or software online to make your formatting task a lot easier.
The downside of getting new tool is the learning time. You need to understand and grasp each function as fast as you can so you'll not waste time in finishing your Kindle e-book. So, unless you have plenty of time to learn, go ahead and try!
When it comes to formatting, my first tip would be stick to basics if you wish to accomplish a lot in short period of time. One good example is using Microsoft Word for formatting. There is nothing fancy with the program and it's easy to use. Moreover, it is not difficult to find because many still use this program at home. Even the old version is sufficient for editing and formatting.
When formatting your e-book using Word, you need to take notes of a few things. First, remove all headers and footers in the documents. Second is to get rid of page numbers and decorative fonts. You need to check with Amazon Self-Publishing guide to see what the accepted fonts are for Kindle.
The front pages of your book are important so remember to include Title page, Copyright, Dedication, Preface or Prologue.
Consider including table of contents for the convenience of your e-readers. The navigation will make it easier for them to jump from one page to another. You can create a simple table of content with Microsoft build in TOC or simply utilize the hyperlink and bookmark functions if you are using Mac computer.
Another thing you need to know during the conversion of documents is the text in your book will be justified automatically and numbered accordingly. However, there are some instances where bullets are displayed poorly or misaligned. It would be better to limit the use of bullets in your book.
When it comes to placing images in the book, avoid wrapping the text around the image because it will displace it once converted to Kindle format. For best result, utilized the Insert button to add images and choose the Inline with Text to position the image. By doing this, you'll get to avoid changes in position.
For tables or graphs, it would be wise to convert it as images because older version on Kindle e-readers cannot read tables.
Don't forget to check for extra spacing or hard returns in the pages. You can do this by clicking the formatting button and look for the P symbol. By removing it you will prevent any errors upon uploading.
Don't forget to always proofread and perform necessary edit on your documents before proceeding to submit it on Kindle. Ask your friends or family to read the book because they may see mistakes you didn't notice.
If you need more detailed instructions on how to edit and format your Kindle e-books, go to the Kindle Direct Publishing website.

A Beginner's Guide to Publishing a Kindle E-Book

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Feeling apprehensive about publishing your e-books in Kindle? Confused with all the instructions and overwhelmed with all the information you see online? Well, worry not because here is a guide to help you start your self-publishing career.
Choosing Kindle as your platform is a smart choice because you get to earn better royalties compared to other platforms and you get to enjoy different promotional tools to help you boost sales. Kindle Direct Publishing has a wide audience of readers around the world.
The most challenging aspect of using Kindle is formatting your book properly. Improper formatting is equivalent to producing a poor product and this will discourage readers from buying your books in the future.
The purpose of formatting is to provide a pleasant reading experience for readers. Reading a digital page is different from reading an ordinary paperback. You can find many formatting tools online but the simplest and easiest one to use is Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Word is easy to use and is compatible with the Kindle format. You can also find Kindle Word Template's where you just copy and paste the content and within a few minutes you can convert your book into a digital copy ready to upload to the Kindle store.
You can also use the Style Ribbon editor, however, this program depends on the Word version you have in your pc. By using this tool the formatting process is simplified and you get to save time. You create structures within the pages without wasting too much time. You can even make changes and apply it immediately on all the pages.
When it comes to publishing your book in Kindle, the key is simplicity. The simpler your document is the better the result. Avoid putting headers, footers or even extravagant fonts because they may not translate well into a readable e-book.
Numbering the pages is also discouraged because Kindle will automatically put numbers on the pages once they publish your book.
Set a separate page for your title, copyright and prologue page. You can also include a resource page and glossary at the end of the book.
Your Kindle e-book will look differently on different readers because they have control over the digital copy. They can change the font size which can affect the overall appearance of the book. Keep in mind all these changes when editing and formatting your book.
To give the readers a pleasant reading experience, make sure your format the book correctly. You can check how it will look on a tablet by using the Kindle Previewer tool. This will give you an idea of how your published book will look like. You can also use the Previewer tool in your KDP account as this is part of the publishing process.
Editing, formatting and publishing e-books are the least favorite activities of any self-publishing writer. Just having good content is not enough in ensuring continuous income from your writing.
You need to understand the process of making your book an enjoyable experience for readers and this can only be done with proper editing and formatting. Once you have proofread, edited, formatted and converted your book in Kindle, your book will then be available for distribution around the world.
However, this is just the first step towards a successful writing career. Your next step will be learning how to promote and market it.
Being one of the more experienced writers for the Kindle platform, Rob Hillman loves to share his thoughts, ideas and tips about the industry. You can find out more about his works at http://www.easykindleriches.com

The Incredible Edible E-Book! A Giant Leap for Marketing Kind

Thursday, July 9, 2015
For those of us that have been writing copy and headlines since back in the day when broken pencils and a dog-eared Roget's Thesaurus were the only indicators of our private adoration of words, the E-book is nothing short of a miracle.
Who could have imagined a day when we could write a compelling product exposé, a vibrant corporate communications feature, and a dynamic branding piece for instant consumption?
The E-Book is a giant leap for marketing-kind and a critical tool for advertisers, sellers and promoters of modern goods and services. In this age of information, the E-book makes facts and figures appetizing. With catchy titles and tantalizing covers, it makes marketing-speak palatable. With charts, graphs and a fully stocked bibliography, E-books provide relevant and thought-provoking commentary on things that matter to the consumer, the buyer, and/or the target audience.
Here are few more reasons why well-crafted, skillfully researched, and professionally designed E-books should be a key part of any marketing strategy:
Immediate Gratification: We have clearly evolved into an impulse society. Here in "the age of instant," consumers have come to expect fast information. We no longer have the luxury of waiting to print and mail something as a "friendly follow-up." The follow-up must be now and an E-book can be sent in seconds via email and then viewed, downloaded and printed out upon receipt. There is no better time than now and no better information than what's top-of-mind and trending.
Versatile: Dropping an E-book into a prospect's inbox is really just the beginning. E-books are multi-use and multipurpose and can be featured in a variety of digital locales. E-Book links can be teased on websites, embedded into landing pages, featured in social media, showcased in a press release, and dropped into a QR code. They can be texted, posted, shared and tweeted with a variety of headlines, covers and enticements. They are the quintessential, no commitment, easy-engagement Call-to-Action. They not only cross-devices but also cross countless marketing channels.
Story Marketing Vehicle: One of the most powerful features of an E-book is its ability to tell a compelling marketing story. Storytelling is one of the oldest and most dynamic gifts of humankind. Placing facts, figures and data into a themed communication piece not only creates greater engagement, but far greater audience retention. Storytelling, after all, is how countless generations before us preserved history and tradition. Modern studies confirm that information presented in a story format is far more likely to be retained. Simply put, great brands tell great stories, and E-books are an ideal format to flex the power of narrative.
Cross Generational: E-Books have also managed to do what few marketing programs and platforms can... appeal to Millennials and Baby Boomers alike. For the most part, Millennials crave newsworthy and trending content that can be read on a phone, tablet or notebook. Boomers, on the other hand, often relish the option of printing information out in hard copy so they can sit down and review it the old fashion way. The E-book's flexible configuration accommodates both preferences so when properly written and designed, it is a cross-demographic solution.
Evergreen Content: With careful planning and strategic writing, an E-book can also provide critical evergreen content for SEO purposes. That's the modern way of saying findable, searchable copy that never really goes out of date. Because of its perennial nature, evergreen content can attract readers for a longer period of time. So an ever-relevant E-book could be the answer to maintaining user engagement and building brand awareness over the long haul. Forget the hardcover versus softcover debate, building a sustainable E-book library or even a Free E-book store could perhaps be the most powerful marketing tool for products and brands looking to get noticed and found... over and over again.
So marketers seeking out the next automation or curation tool may want to take pause. As you sift through the maddening metrics of algorithms, re-targeting, tracking, tag management, predictive analytics, data exchanges, A/B testing, real-time decisioning, CRM, CMS, and SEO... you may just find that a well written and highly engaging E-book detailing the overriding merits of your product, service, or brand could possibly be the best thing you can do for your business this year.

Free Photos for Use When Writing an eBook

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Searching for the right photos to compliment your eBook can be very time consuming, and finding ones with legal use allowances can be even more challenging. After all, when you've spent hours, days and months grinding through the completion of writing an eBook, the last thing you want to do is spend time flipping through endless pages of extensive stock photos. While it may seem easier to simply Google a term for the picture you're seeking and "borrow" one of the images that comes up in the search results, I strongly caution you against doing so. This approach can have illegal consequences and you may be faced with serious fines for your easy-way-out borrowing tactics. Luckily, there are plenty of sites that provide legal photo use options, and if you're a writer on a budget, you don't have to break the bank to take advantage of them. And the best part is that the leg work has already been done for you! Check out the following websites - they offer free photos that you can use to help you with the design and layout of your book.
Flickr Creative Commons is an exceptional website for obtaining the photos you need to spruce up your content when writing an eBook. Flickr has a large selection of photos and most of them are protected under the Creative Commons. This means you can legally use the photos from this website as long as you give recognition and attribution to the photographer.
Every Stock Photo is another great site that gives you access to over 16 million free photos. These photos come from sources such as NASA and the Library of Congress. If you need a photo for writing an eBook, this is the ideal place to look first. There are different licensing options so you need to pay close attention to the specific licensing terms for the images that you choose.
Stock Exchange is one of the most popular places on the internet to download free images when writing an eBook. There are approximately 400,000 images to choose from. Just be careful to pay close attention when surfing for pictures because some of the results may come from other sites. If you click on a link that directs you to another site, a payment may be required for your photo choice. However, as long as your photo selections are made directly on the site, they're absolutely free.
Public Domain Photos has a nice selection of images to choose from for author looking for photos when writing an eBook. This site offers approximately 5,000 free photos. If your book has a lot of scenic references, the nature section is worth checking out as it has a vast array of images of National Parks and other places all around the world. Again, as long as you use photos directly on the site rather selecting one by clicking a link, the photos are free.
A picture is worth a thousand words and there is no doubt about the power of a beautiful photograph to draw attention to your work when writing an eBook. With the websites referenced above you're sure to find a collection of astounding images that will accent your literary masterpiece and it won't cost you a cent!
