Best Way to Self Publish

Thursday, July 9, 2015
The incredible growth of the Internet, social media platforms and online forums has provided authors with applicable opportunities to sell their books lucratively. Self Publishing authors are achieving best-seller rankings and attracting mainstream attention. Since the possibility of becoming a well-known author is accessible, it is important to research the resources to self-publish a professional quality manuscript. To do this, authors are to focus on three main sections of the publishing process.
Print-On-Demand Printers
Self-publishing authors have the option to choose which print service will help them reach their goal. Print-on-demand (POD) printing services print books for self-publishing authors. Since Print-On-Demand printers only print your books, the writer has to handle cover design, securing an editor and the marketing plan. Some self-publishing authors favor POD companies because their prices are competitive and authors maintain control of the manuscript.
For authors whose goal is reaching a specific audience to market their products and services, other print-on-demand options are feasible such as Create Space. For example, writers that want to self-publish their eBooks, create space is an excellent choice. Also, it can help your reach mainstream. Amanda Hocking found her audience and millions selling eBooks on Amazon.
Format and Design
Talking about eBooks brings me to formatting and designing books for the Internet. Formatting manuscripts into eBooks and e-readers like Kindle or Nook sometimes means excluding graphics that are in your paper versions. Book cover designs are also important. Although Create Space provides book cover templates, some covers require formatting. Another cost consideration is an editor. As the author, it is easy to see what is not there. An editor will proof the manuscript for grammar, content and comprehension.
Marketing
Finally, a marketing plan for your book is imperative. Self-publishing and traditional authors are accountable for marketing their books. Once an author is clear about the goals they intend to reach with their book, they can research which marketing strategies will best meet their aspirations. For authors not familiar with online marketing strategies, hiring a professional may be the way to go.
Focusing on these three areas will help self-publishing authors create eye-catching books available in paper or electronic versions. POD printers and POD publishers are available to help authors make their dreams come true. Remember just as reflection and research were time-consuming to write the book, formatting and marketing also will be an investment of time and resources to present a polished book that sells.

Where To Start With Technology Investments

Thursday, July 9, 2015
An investment is something you make in order to gain financial reward. It can be somewhat of a risk so it is important that you choose carefully in order to gain this sought-after outcome. A technology investment is one of the most common types of investments nowadays given the rapid growth of the sector and the money it reaps if successful.
There are many types of technology investments you can make. It is an increasingly big industry with new companies and ideas popping up everyday. There are many specialty areas in which you could make a technology investment with the right knowledge, or else you could head in a more general direction if you are not so well-versed in the technology field. In this article we've put together three extremely broad areas that are often deemed worthwhile places to start when planning on making a technology investment.
Software
Software is a program that contains instructions on how computers should operate. Without software there is very little most computers can do. It is the non physical part of the computer, with the physical known as hardware. Software contains a code that prompts the hardware to operate.
Software is a good technology investment to make as it forms the basis of technology itself. New types of software can often make computers and machines operate faster or perform different functions. Software is used by everyone from consumers to businesses and there are always new types being developed and new developers entering the market. You can invest in current, hot software companies on the hope that they will release something similarly successful in the future, or you can back a new, or undervalued player whom you think is on the verge of the next big thing.
Apps
Apps are actually a type of software known as application software. They are increasingly popular especially in the age of mobile computer devices like smartphones and tablets. Apps perform select functions and require an operating system form of software to already be installed on your device. However, because they are smaller pieces software, they are easier and cheaper to make, meaning they are a particularly good technology investment if you choose the right one.
Most apps are also incredibly user-friendly and the right app can become seriously popular amongst mobile users if it proves especially useful, or fun. Certain apps have been purchased or downloaded by millions, proving themselves as a fruitful technology investment.
Cloud
Cloud technology is another type of software that allows unrivaled access for its users to programs and information. It is software that is shared, normally via the internet, so it means that the actual software offering the instructions and information to the user does not need to be installed on their device. Cloud technology means you can access and share data from anywhere with an internet connection. It is increasingly popular with businesses, as it allows for remote work and therefore is an excellent technology investment. Cloud technology is still relatively new and constantly in development, so it is a good investment to begin with.
As mentioned, the above are very broad areas to look into when considering a technology investment, but they are a great place to start. Technology investments can offer financial rewards, along with the services they offer to users and the jobs they create for the economy. Technology is one of the best industries you can invest in right now.
WordLogic is a global leader in technology investment for hand-held devices such as mobile and tablet.

Another Way To Choose a Product Or Service To Sell Online

Thursday, July 9, 2015
Make Sure People Are Actively Searching For Your Product or Service Idea
Once you have identified your market interest and that you've chosen your product/service to offer, you need to make sure that people are actually looking for your product. You don't want to spend months and months developing a product only to find that no one wants to buy it! So please, before you go any further, make sure that
- a lot of (or at least enough) people are actively looking for your product/service online
- you can make profitable sales
- the market isn't oversaturated with competition
- you create or develop a product niche that is yours, one that you can own.
There are multiple ways you can use to find out how many people are searching for your product. But let me limit myself to one quite efficient that you can use to get answers very quickly.
I personally use KeywordSpy.com. It is very helpful, I find. So far, I'm still using their free version since I only use for keywords, but should you need further services from them, by all means, use the tool as you please. You can type in words or phrases which you think people may be using in search of your product. Make sure you use specific words or phrases. Although broader terms will have larger numbers, this is not necessarily great. Keep in mind that your goal is to get highly targeted and focused prospects. For instance, if your product is a book or a guide about "Kung Fu fighting", you wouldn't want everybody who's interested in "fighting" visiting your website, would you? You get the idea.
Next thing you need to do is taking a look at your competition. Learn as much as you can about your competitors. You can use Google.com to do this. Just type in the same keywords you used in the previous activity. You will see a couple of recommended web sites. Check them out, their products/services, how do they compare to yours? Analyze them to find a gap, something that they are missing. It is that one thing that will make you stand out! Is it prices? Do they lack wider selection? Do they lack a specialty?... If you're lucky, you will find that so many people are looking for your product/service idea, but that there are not enough companies to answer to this need. In other words, there'll be a huge market/demand, but low supply. That would be your super aha! moment.
Here are some great ways you can use to conduct a product research:
- ClickBank.com - You can use this to find products already selling online. You obtain quite a lot of useful information there.
- E-zines - Through these electronic magazines, you get more specific and thorough information about just about anything (product reviews, advice, how-tos, articles, etc.)
- Forums - In these, you will find discussion groups where participants share common, specific interests. They'll be exchanging messages and ideas on those interests. Reddit.com or DigitalPoint.com are some of the most popular ones.
- Blogs - You can use blogs to find out more about your prospects' or customers' interests and opinions. For instance, using our previous keyword example, you could type "Kung Fu fighting blogs" in any search engine you prefer, and this will pull some information you could use to your advantage.
Once you have completed this step, you will have a much clearer and better understanding of your product/service as well as its online possibilities. Don't worry if you still feel stuck. Always remember that your goal is to uncover a gap, a missing important element or a problem that online consumers have, and offer the best possible solution for it.

How to Start an Internet Business Using the Product Creation Model

Thursday, July 9, 2015
If you think that finding a profitable market is difficult, think again. Did you know that using your innate talents, skills and hobbies can help you earn money? Through an Internet business model known as Product Creation, you'll be able to start your own home-based business, increase your income and have fun on the side.
What is Product Creation?
Product creation can be done through several means; one is by selling eBooks. These online books can be about almost anything. With your creative mind and writing skills, you can write instructional, informative eBooks that your readers and maybe even advertising firms can purchase. If you are into trivia, history or current events, your skills can still be useful in writing online books for people to read and purchase.
You can also start creating video and audio training materials and other instructional guides and sell them online. Teasers for each should be posted on your own website and/or social networking sites to entice people to read, watch, listen and purchase your audio or video "books." You can easily find audio book contents online. As a matter of fact, you can even base them on your hobbies, interests and current events.
Selling software can also be a great way to earn a living. If you are into software programming, you can sell your designs over the Internet. You can look for new projects on oDesk and other similar freelancing sites where employers and job seekers meet to find virtual work connections.
How to Start an Internet Business Using the Product Creation Model
Starting this type of business can be achieved by following these three guidelines. These steps will help you create the perfect products to sell online.
Step 1. Invest in your strengths. Create a list of the technical and Internet related skills at which you excel. Next, write down all the things that you enjoy doing, such as baking, writing, blogging or photo editing. If you're good at marketing and developing programs that organize and edit pictures, these skills would help you set up your new internet based business.
Step 2. Narrow down your list and come up with a plan of action to find out your target market. Study the specifics of the line of business you have chosen to find out what level of competition you'll have.
Step 3. Now you have chosen and created the product that you want to sell, it's time to develop a strategy to attract more buyers. One way is to post your products on your own website. You can also offer the articles, programs and tutorials on classified sites such as Craigslist or Gumtree and freelancing sites such as ELance, oDesk and Freelancer. Offer affordable packages for your software and throw in a bunch of freebies as extra enticements if possible.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the Product Creation Model
Starting a product creation business can be advantageous because you can get to do the things you're good at and enjoy. Not only will you be able to reach out to many people through an Internet business such as this, you will also be able to hone your skills and get your creative juices flowing at the same time.
Although it is not a guarantee that you will earn money quickly, which is considered as one of the downsides of product creation, earning a lot of money from your sales is possible. You also need to be really good at what you do and should be open to improving your skills to help you continue to generate lots of sales.

Your overhead costs are much lower than a traditional book publisher and you are therefore able to provide an indefinite supply of downloads to your customers at any time of the day with no additional costs to you.
It is important to realize that the online audience is closer to everyday conversation then to college-level rules which means you don't need not be a professional writer for academic consumption or a writer who publishes novels.

If you are wondering what it means to assemble and promote an empire of eBooks, you can imagine a situation whereby you start with a topic you have a deep passion for and you begin with producing one digital copy.
Then, you gradually branch out with the result of branding yourself as you go from product-to product until your demographic needs are well established.
It's not a matter of writing one guide that provides information on database planning. Instead, Your writing includes one about conducting a feasibility study, another on requirements analysis, one on best record layout strategies, and so forth.
As you drill down into smaller niche ideas, you will discover that you are developing more selling opportunities which gives you a better chance for profits.
To develop an eBook, you will find that a step-by-step process exists that starts with discovering your topic-niche and completes itself when you discover the keys to firmly establishing a valid affiliate program. Your eBooks can be launched online using many low-cost tools and some that are free.
To continue to grow your empire and sustain your online presence, you will need to add building blocks with follow-up product ideas including a constant development of virtual sales help through your affiliate army of others wanting to profit from your products.
To ensure that you promote your reputation in the technical community, it will require that you commit some of your time and energy in either outsourcing your written IT-knowledge needs or writing the material yourself, using your gathered experience. Your business opportunity will improve by following either path suggested here,
There are many ways to supplement your income but all of them require that you pick up a few tips on how to market and promote yourself in the information technology business. Important Dates Concerning the Public Domain

Thursday, July 9, 2015
The following dates apply to the USA only. We're concentrating on the USA as this has the most creative works available in the Public Domain. We'll come to the UK later on.
• DECEMBER 31st 1922
• 1st JANUARY 1923 - 31st DECEMBER 1963
• IMPORTANT NUMBERS: 28, 67 (or 95 )
Anything published in the USA before 1923 i.e. up to Dec. 31st 1922, is in the public domain - period! Whatever it is, be it book, photo, painting, music* it doesn't matter - it's in the Public Domain which means you can do whatever you want with it.
*Actually only sheet music or song lyrics can be in the Public Domain in the USA - ALL music in the form of sound recordings are under copyright until at least 2067. However there is a way to download certain recordings and we'll cover those in another post which will also cover where to find them.
31st Jan. 1923 - 31st Dec. 1963 - Anything published between these two dates automatically came with a 28 year copyright. However if the copyright was NOT renewed in the 28th year then the work fell into the Public Domain. If it was renewed then the copyright extended for another 67 years or 95 years from first being published.
Example: If a work was published in 1930 and the copyright was renewed in 1958 then the copyright would not run out until 2025 ( 1958 + 67 years = 2025) The other calculation is to add 95 onto the year of publication which is in this case means 1930 + 95 = 2025. It just depends on whichever method you feel comfortable with.
Apparently between 85% - 93% of all creative works published between these two dates NEVER had the copyright renewed. This mean there is a vast ocean of in the available material for you to access and use in whichever way you want.
What about works published from 1964 onwards you might ask? Well from 1964 - 1977 copyright is automatically 95 years from date of publication which means it'll be 2059 before any of that material is in the Public Domain so it really isn't relevant if, like me, you're in your 50's already!
This also applies to works published from 1978 onwards although the length of time of copyright varies between 70 - 120 years or 75 years after the death of the author / creator. Again this is irrelevant for our purposes.
IMPORTANT - In the UK creative works have a copyright until the end of the 70th year after the death of the author/creator. Note that it's the end of the 70th year - not the 70th anniversary of the author's death. So if the author died in JUNE 1930 their work would not be in the Public Domain in the UK until the 1st January 2001
Now it's also important to note that even if the work was published and in the Public Domain in one country it doesn't mean it's in the Public Domain in another. A good example here is PETER PAN written by J.M. Barrie.
This was written in 1920 and published in the UK then. It was also published in the USA in 1922 so technically it was in the Public Domain in the USA but NOT in the UK as the author was still alive! In fact he didn't die until 1937 so Peter Pan would not normally come into the public domain in the UK until 2008.
However an amendment to the 1988 Copyright Designs and Patents Act in the UK was passed to allow the copyright for Peter Pan to run indefinitely in the UK with all royalties being allocated to the trustees of the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London, for as long as the hospital exists.
The book could be sold by anyone if they resided in the USA without fear of breach of copyright but not so in the UK.
So you now know what dates to look for when searching for a product that's in the Public Domain. They are very important so keep them close for reference.
It's also important to note that there is a lot of information published that does NOT have copyright. This applies to government publications as these are produced for the general public and paid for out of public funds and so can be used by the general public in any legal way.
There are easy ways to find out if a product is in the Public Domain, especially books which are the most popular product searched for, but we'll talk about those in another post.
If you want to find out more about the Public Domain and how you can build a successful business using it then go to http://www.digitalwealth4you.com for more detailed information.
There's a choice of two courses regarding the public domain - one contains three ready made websites with products to sell and the other is a 3 week E-course without the websites but just as much information. Both are an excellent way to build a business using the public domain.

Just How and Where Can I Find What's In The Public Domain

Thursday, July 9, 2015
MUSIC
First of all let's get one thing clear - apparently there are NO SOUND RECORDINGS available in the Public Domain in the USA until 2067.
In fact sound recordings are usually adaptations of the original works which means in the UK it's the same as it is for books - 70 years from the composers or creators death.
You can however record your own version of a musical composition by a composer such as Mozart as the sheet music is in the Public Domain which you can download for free.
There is also another way to get around this anomaly. There is a great source of freely available recordings from a company called Incompetech. Here you will find a collection of songs/music produced by American artist Kevin Macleod.
These are distributed under a Creative Commons licence. The only condition of use is that you credit him if you use it - not too much to ask is it!
BOOKS.
This is the main product sought by those interested in making a business out of the Public Domain. Trouble is there are so many sites offering such books just where do you start?
A fantastic site to visit is http://www.ebookfriendly.com. On this one site you get 25 different sites offering free books which are all in the Public Domain.
There's one that offers access to millions of items from European libraries, museums and archives whilst another called Librivox, specialises in audiobooks.
I had a quick scan of it and it looks promising as they're always adding to it. They're also looking for volunteer readers if you fancy recording a book yourself!
MAPS
The New York Public Library has released 20,000 16th - 19th century historical maps mainly the USA and New York but also some other countries for free download.
You can also digitally align them with current maps if you download their mapwarper.
Go to http://www.openglam.org for more information.
IMAGES, SOUNDS AND VIDEO
For these types of creative works try visiting Wikimedia Commons. It has a database of millions of such items all freely available.
One important thing to note is even though the product you want is in the Public Domain which means it's free to use as you want, it doesn't mean it's free to download! After all you may find an old book in a second-hand shop and it may well be in the public domain but you still have to buy it to use it.
The same applies online - there is one website where the owner has burned 80+ self-help books,on to a CD, all of which are in the public domain. You can use all of these books as you wish but you have to buy the CD to be able to do so.
You may have noticed that all of the above are available online but don't forget that you can find many creative works which are in the public domain such as prints, books, sheet music etc. offline in secondhand shops, libraries, auctions and car boot sales.
Don't limit yourself by sitting in front of a computer, it's a big world out there!
For more information regarding the public domain visit http://www.digitalwealth4you.com for here you will also find other internet marketing related opportunities including video and blogging.
See you there!
